Fit First - Buy Later.

Fit First is the concept that you do a bike fit before you buy a bike.

The Process

THE JIG

The jig is a masterpiece of engineering.

This is not some repurposed exercise bike. This is a dedicated bike fit tool for accurately determining fit data.

We use the jig to start from a clean slate. What would the perfect fit look like? Here we can discuss and test bars, saddles, and crank lengths.

Pedalling Perfection has refined the process of fitting pre-purchase with hundreds of clients over the past ten years.

We are with you step-by-step along the way. From initial sizing, CAD modeling, geometry comparisons, and email support, to final adjustments when the bike has arrived.

BikeCAD Modelling

Here we take the coordinates measured and corroborated using laser precision, steel rulers, vernier calipers, and spirit levels. No gimmicky inconsistent tools. We work to tight tolerances. With an engineering background to our processes, we only use tools that allow us to achieve our tight tolerances.

We input our data into specialist BIKECAD software to model your position. Here we can discuss stem angle and length, spacer stack and bar reach and its impacts on bike sizing.

Geometry Geekery

This is the part where you can choose to be as hands-on or hands-off as you like.

Geometry tables - sort of like reading the Matrix. With our trained eye these numbers leap off the page and we can imagine what these bikes will fit and feel like to ride.

We compare and contrast different bike options for as long as you need in order to make an informed decision. Usually, this part takes place over email unless you have a very specific bike in mind.

Final Tweaks

We always want to see our work completed. This is why we always finish the process with a final session in the fit studio with your new bike to make the adjustments and final tweaks so everything is dialled in to perfection. .

This session is included in the initial cost as we feel it is a compulsory part of the process

The Good

“This is my second fit with Jon, in preparation for the purchase of a Triathlon bike of which I have zero experience. Took the time to explain everything in detail, and at a level that a “newbie” could understand. Came away very happy and very comfortable with the settings we finalised despite being my first attempt at a Triathlon/Aero position and looking forward to him transferring them across to the Tri bike that I am purchasing. Very pleasant atmosphere, put me at ease very quickly, and a very professional service. Can’t recommend Jon enough.”

We deliberately choose not to sell bikes / shoes / handlebars etc to remove all biases. This means you know you can trust our opinions come from facts and experience not profit margins.

WE ARE IMPARTIAL!

The Bad

“The reason I came today is that I had two bike fits on bikes I was buying from a local shop over the past few years. One was a 54cm and one was a 56cm, each time I was told they fit despite being completely different geometries. Conveniently both bikes happened to be in stock at the time which I found very suspicious. I’d like to know what actually fits.”

A note from the bike fitter

Bike sizing and misinformation by bike sales staff has always been a personal issue for me. Going back to age 14, just when I got into mountain biking, my dad wanted to take me to some trail centres and join me riding, so he went into the local shop to buy a bike.

The bike was sold was a 21” (XL) with a 100mm stem fitted. Even at age 14 ( and already taller than him) I could see he should be a medium (17”) on that particular bike.

It’s a little funny looking back now but he could barely straddle the top tupe and he was constantly crashing over the handlebars because he couldn’t get over the bike. The stem was so long and the saddle couldn’t go low enough ( long before dropper posts). He could ride all the trails on my bike but it meant we had to swap bikes constantly. Even being taller than him I didn’t want to ride this gigantic bike!

The bike was used for a few weekends then retired permanently. This wasn’t an expensive bike but it was still a few hundred pounds which is a lot of money to waste on something that is completely the wrong size for you.

So began my interest in frame geometry and fit. Here I am almost twenty years later with one of the most dedicated bike fit studios with adjustable everything to ensure no one needs to make that mistake again!
